1.Study or Work 学习或工作
a) Are you a student or working?
i.I’m currently a senior at Fuzhou University studying Accounting.
ii.Neither. I graduated from High School last year and since then, I’ve been preparing for IELTS full-time.
b)Why did you choose this major / job ?
i.Mainly because the prospect of getting a better-paid job is higher than other majors.
c)Which part of your studies/job do you find most interesting?
i.Actually, I don’t find it fun at all because the course load is too much to handle. I hardly have time to do anything else.
d)What is the most difficult part of your studies/job?
i.I hate the office politics that’s going on among my colleagues. It is distracting and not to mention, childish!
e)What do you hope to do when you finish your studies?
i.My plan is to study Business Management in Australia. After that, I might even settle down over there.
f)What kind of courses require team work?
i.Any courses could involve team work. It all depends on the kind of assignments handed to us. For e.g. we definitely need to work together for a group presentation.
g)Do you prefer to (work/study) alone or in a group?
i.Most of the time, I prefer working alone. I had bad experiences with irresponsible team mates who did nothing and yet expected to be given credit for my work.
2.Flat or House公寓或房屋
a)What can you see outside the window of your house?
i.2 blocks of apartments…which isn’t exactly that interesting. To the right of my balcony, I could catch parts of a bridge and more houses in the distance. In all, the view isn’t that good.
b) Who do you live with?
i.It’s just my parents and I for now.
c)How long have you lived in your house? 注意时态!
i.I’ve lived there for over twenty years and will be there for as long as I know.
d) What is there on the wall in your house?
i.I would say my walls are pretty plain and boring. So as you can guess, there’s nothing on the wall!
e)Which room in your house do you like best?
i.Definitely my bedroom because it’s multi-functional. I eat, sleep, read, study,…practically everything!
f) Describe your bedroom. Do you like it? Why?
i.Not that big, about 15 square meters with an adjoining balcony. In it, I have the usual furniture. Nothing too fancy but comfortable.
g)Is there anything you want to change / improve about your house?
i.Yes! in fact, I’m thinking of putting in wood paneling. Just to make it more cozy.

a)Describe your hometown.
i.It’s a small urban city covering 700 Square kilometers. The landscape is dominated by flats and roads spread evenly throughout the city. I call it a “concrete jungle”.
b) What’s the most interesting part of your hometown?
i.That would have to be a tourist-oriented island known as Sentosa Island, where 2 new casinos are being built. In a year’s time, everyone (locals and tourists alike) will be flocking to it.
c)Has your hometown changed in recent years?
i.It has undergone tremendous changes in the past 20 years, and still is. Modern malls are springing up everywhere at such a rapid rate that it feels like I’m in a foreign country every time I go back.
4.Swimming游泳
a)Do you like swimming?
i.I love swimming. I don’t think there’s any other better exercise that works the whole body.
b) Do you want to learn how to swim?
c)How often do you swim?
i.Not as much as I would like to, given that my work hours are irregular. But in the past, I try to swim twice a week.
d) Where do you go swimming?
i.There’s a public pool 5 minutes from where I live. So that’s where I usually go.
5.Bicycle自行车
a)Are bicycles popular where you live?
i.No doubt. Bicycle is still the most popular form of transport in my city as it’s the most affordable.
b) What are the advantages and disadvantages of travelling by bicycle?
i.As for the advantages, it’s cheap and actually faster than cars in a built-up city like Fuzhou! The downside to it is once you get into an accident, it can be fatal as compared to let’s say, taking the bus.
c)Do you think riding bicycles on the road is safe?
i.Generally yes - if you keep to the bicycle lanes.
6.Internet / Computer互联网
a)When did you first use the Internet? Who taught you?
i.It was back in 1997 when I first went online. Amazing experience it was! I just figured it out on my own as I went along.
b) What do you usually do on the Internet?
i.Reading the news is absolutely the first thing I do, followed by checking the mail, then surfing the sites I regularly go to, like BBC news, etc.
c)What are the effects of computers on children? Positive or negative effects?
d) What are the advantages and disadvantages of Internet?
i.There are simply too many to list. But in a broad sense, it has brought the world closer and improved the efficiency of many tasks. What used to take days now takes minutes, even seconds. On the contrary, some people exploit the Net to commit cyber crimes, spread hate and porn, things like that. So, in a word, the Net is a double-edged sword.

a)What are the main reasons people use email in your country?
i.Mostly for personal and business correspondence. Of course, there are some who use it to spam.
b) What are the disadvantages of email?
i.Most PC viruses, “worms” and “Trojan horses” spread through emails, so I’d say that’s the main danger of using email.
c)Do you think email will replace letter writing?
i.I don’t think it will, at least not in the near future, as there are still millions of people without internet access. So writing letter is still the only means to communicate.
8.Party聚会
a)What kind of parties have you been to?
i.Let’s see…the usual ones…you know, birthdays, class get-togethers, family functions…
b) Do you like going to parties? Why? Why not?
i.Not exactly. You see, I’m more of a “home person”, so I go to parties only when there’s a need to.
ii.Yeah! I hate being alone so I jump at any chance I have to party!
c)What kind of parties do you like?
i.I like those that aren’t too formal, those where you don’t have to dress up really well.
d) Who enjoy parties more, elderly people or young people?
i.I think it all depends on the individual. If you are outgoing by nature, you’ll have a good time no matter what age you are. Conversely, you won’t enjoy a party if you are introverted. In my opinion, age doesn’t matter.
